Date: September 01, 2016 09:16PM
If anyone is interested, contact the email mentioned below.

Dear Resident Groups,

I’m just sending a reminder about the Stop Food Waste Challenge workshops. We’ve had a really poor response to date so I would be grateful if you could use your influence to drive interest. This course is invaluable to Tidy Towns groups with the Sustainable Waste and Resource Management section worth a possible 50 Marks (of 450). The course can also be used as evidence for community involvement in the Tidy Districts competition.

The workshops are built around the Stop Food Waste Challenge see here and cover the following themes:
Awareness - what are you wasting?
Planning - shopping lists etc.
Shopping - understanding supermarket marketing techniques etc.
Storage - what, where, how and why.
Cooking - portion control, leftover recipes etc.

Worth noting participant in the Stop Food Waste Challenge reduced their food waste by 50% (on average) realising an on average saving of €30 per month on food bills.

Courses are taking place in Shanganagh House and the new Samuel Beckett Centre, refreshments will be given to participants (dates/times below). Participants are asked to attend all 4 dates at the chosen venue. Notes will be provided if you can’t make a particular date.

Survey
Prior to the commencement of the course , participants will be asked to undertake a short survey which will take a few minutes to complete. We’ll also encourage you to have your friends and neighbours do the same. A follow-up survey will also be completed in June to identify any lasting benefits as a result of the programme.

We are producing 20,000 Stop Food Waste calendar for distribution in early December. Participating will receive a copy for each household in their community. The calendars will be packed full of helpful hints and tips based upon the experience of course participants.

To express an interest in the course please email deaton@dlrcoco.ie

Workshops are funded by the EPA (Environment Protection Agency) via their LAPN (Local Authority Prevention Network).

Regards.
